Arthur Hiller's 1970
tear-jerker, Love Story, was panned by the critics but
loved by movie audiences. The sentimental story of two
lovers overcoming all obstacles only to be separated by a
tragic early death, starred Ryan O' Neil and Ali McGraw.
The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards but only
won the Oscar for Francis Lai's emotive music. The lyrical
and haunting piano-dominated score, dripping with
sentiment, successfully wrings every emotion out of the
viewer.
