Programme Notes

Vaughan Williams' English Folk Song Suite was written in 1923 for the military band at Kneller Hall and subsequently arranged for orchestra by Gordon Jacob. It is a simple yet appealing collection of folk songs and is split into fast-slow-fast sections. The quoted material includes Seventeen Come Sunday, Pretty Caroline, My Bonny Boy, Green Bushes, Blow Away the Morning Dew, The Trees So High, John Barleycorn and High Germany.
